Relay uses no advertising or analytics cookies, and no tracking of you across sites. The website sets no cookies at all. Relay on the web uses one cookie, to keep you signed in. Here is everything Relay stores in your browser, and why.
1. The website #
The pages at relay.diferentlabs.com (the landing page, pricing, download, contact, the legal pages and large-file download pages) set no cookies. They load no analytics, advertising, social media or other third-party scripts, fonts or images: their content security policy allows only files from our own site, which also blocks analytics beacons from our hosting provider.
If you pick a language, or dismiss the offer to switch to your language, the site remembers that in your browser's local storage, which never leaves your device and is not sent to us:
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
relay-lang | Local storage | The language you chose | Until you clear it |
relay-lang-hint | Local storage | That you dismissed the offer to switch language | Until you clear it |
2. Relay on the web #
Relay on the web (relay.diferentlabs.com/app) uses one cookie, which is strictly necessary to keep you signed in, and stores your display preferences in your browser:
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
relay_session | Cookie (first-party, HttpOnly, Secure, SameSite=Lax, path /app) | Keeps you signed in. A random value; our server stores only its hash. | 30 days, or until you sign out |
relay.appearance | Local storage | Theme and display preferences | Until you clear it |
relay.tabVisits, relay.unreadOnly, relay.mailboxFilter, relay.refine, relay.rail.top | Local storage | Which tabs you visited, list filters, the search refinement and the layout of the side rail | Until you clear it |
relay.googlePending | Session storage | Remembers, for the length of a Google sign-in, that one is in progress | Until the tab closes |
The admin area at /admin uses its own sign-in cookie, for our staff only.
3. Our network provider #
Relay is delivered through Cloudflare. If Cloudflare's security features need to tell people from bots, Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary security cookie, such as __cf_bm (30 minutes) or cf_clearance, which it does not use to track you. See Cloudflare's cookie list.
4. Checkout and the customer portal #
When you subscribe, manage your plan or view a receipt, you are on pages run by Stripe, which sells Pro through Link as our merchant of record: Stripe's checkout and customer portal, and link.com. Stripe and Link set their own cookies there, for example to prevent fraud and keep the checkout working, under the Stripe Cookie Policy.
5. The Mac and iPhone apps #
The apps do not use cookies. They keep your mail and settings in their own storage on your device, as described in our Privacy Policy.
6. Read status in email #
Read status is not a cookie, but it is a similar technology: when you send tracked mail, Relay adds a small invisible image and rewrites links, which tell you when the recipient opens the message or clicks a link. It sets no cookie on the recipient's device. Because it reads information from the recipient's mail app, the EU, EEA and UK ePrivacy rules may require the recipient's consent; as the sender, you decide whether to use it and are responsible for doing so lawfully. Relay's own blocking of tracking pixels protects you from the trackers in the mail you receive. See the Privacy Policy, section 4.4, and the Terms, section 14.
7. Your choices #
Because the cookie and the storage above are strictly necessary or only remember choices you made, we do not show a consent banner. You can clear them at any time in your browser's settings; clearing relay_session signs you out of Relay on the web. If we ever want to use cookies that are not strictly necessary, we will ask for your consent first and update this notice.
