Acceptable Use Policy

last updated

Relay is for reading and writing your own mail. This policy lists what you may not do with it, so it stays fast, trusted and safe for everyone, including the people you email. It is part of our Terms of Service.

1. Read status and link tracking: consent first, and no surveillance #

You, the sender, are responsible for tracking lawfully. Read status (a tracking pixel) and link tracking are on by default in the Relay apps. Before you track a recipient, make sure it is lawful in that recipient's country, and tell them or get their consent where the law requires it. In the EU, the EEA and the UK, the ePrivacy rules, together with the GDPR and UK GDPR, usually require the recipient's prior consent for tracking pixels and tracked links. Where you do not have the notice, consent or other legal basis required, turn tracking off, in Settings or for one message in the composer.

  • Use read status and link tracking only where it is lawful, with the notice or consent the law requires, and stop tracking anyone who objects or asks you to stop.
  • Never use read status, link tracking or the location and device details they show to stalk, locate, harass or covertly monitor a person, including a partner, family member, employee or anyone else.
  • Do not use read status to profile people or to build data about recipients for other purposes.

2. No spam or bulk unsolicited mail #

  • Do not use Relay to send bulk, unsolicited or marketing email to people who have not agreed to receive it, or in breach of anti-spam laws such as CAN-SPAM, the EU and UK ePrivacy rules, CASL or similar laws.
  • Do not use Relay as a mass-mailing or cold-outreach engine, send to bought, rented or scraped address lists, or rotate mailboxes or accounts to get around a mail provider's sending limits.
  • Do not hide or fake who a message is from, or forge headers.

3. No phishing, malware or fraud #

  • No phishing, impersonation of people or organisations, or messages meant to trick people into giving up credentials, money or data.
  • No viruses, ransomware, spyware or other malicious code, in attachments, links or large files.
  • No scams, fraud, or schemes that deceive people.

4. Nothing illegal or harmful #

  • No content or activity that is illegal where you are or where your recipients are, including child sexual abuse material (which we report to the authorities), content that infringes intellectual property or privacy, or that promotes violence or terrorism.
  • No harassment, threats, bullying, hate speech, doxxing or intimidation.
  • No sharing of other people's personal data without a lawful basis.

5. No abuse of the AI features #

  • Do not use the assistant to create content that breaks this policy, or in breach of our AI provider's usage policies (Anthropic's Usage Policy).
  • Do not try to extract Relay's prompts or other people's data, to jailbreak the models, or to use Relay as a general-purpose access point to AI models for anything other than your mail.
  • Do not automate the AI features through scripts, or resell their output as a service.
  • Do not use AI outputs to make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects on people without a human review.

6. No attacks on Relay, scraping or getting around limits #

  • Do not probe, scan or test the security of Relay without our written permission (good-faith security research under our security page is welcome).
  • Do not interfere with or overload Relay, its servers or its providers, for example through denial-of-service attacks or excessive automated requests.
  • Do not scrape, crawl or harvest data from Relay, its large-file pages or its API, or access them in ways other than through our apps and published pages.
  • Do not get around plan limits, allowances or safeguards, for example by creating several accounts, sharing an account between many people, or tampering with the apps or their requests.
  • Do not use another person's account or mailbox without permission.

7. Large-file links #

Use large-file links to send files to the people you write to, not as public hosting, a file-sharing site or a content delivery network. Do not share illegal content, malware, or files you do not have the right to share.

8. What happens if this policy is broken #

We may investigate suspected breaches, remove content such as large files, limit features, suspend or close accounts, and report illegal activity to the authorities, as described in the Terms. Where it is reasonable, we will tell you first and give you a chance to fix the problem. We do not read your mail to look for breaches; we act on reports, on signals from our systems (such as abnormal volumes) and on what the law requires.

9. Reporting abuse #

To report spam, phishing, a harmful large-file link or other abuse sent with Relay, write to marek@diferentlabs.com with the subject "Abuse", and include the message or the link. We read every report.
